Archibalds Stone Carving Symposium 2010

Saturday 16 January - Monday 25 January 2010 at Maidstone Park, Upper Hutt City.

"The howling southerly of last weekend didn't reach as far as Upper Hutt, where at least 30 sculptors from all over the region, and as far away as Christchurch and Australia, gathered for the 16th annual Archibald's Stone Carving Symposium at Maidstone Park.

The carvers come for camaraderie, learning, and the chance to spend up to 10 days on one or more sculptures in the peace of the tree-shaded park. But the peace is broken by the almost incessant tap of mallet on chisel and ringing of steel on stone.

It's a background sound, like the song of birds, unless you're up close to a carver in action."

(From an article by Michael Kopp for the Upper Hutt Leader)

Some fine work by my fellow stone carvers at this Symposium:
