THE FAMILY KORU
Created specifically for a family with two kids. The simplicity and elegance of the koru appealed as the foundation for the sculpture.
As in past pieces it represents growth, and often new beginnings. It speaks of purity and strength borne of something new and fresh, and often reflects a state of peace and tranquillity.

MAKING THE FAMILY KORU
JOE'S MUM'S HEI MATAU
This was a collaborative effort. Joe and the whanau would drop by to check on the progress. They gave their thoughts about the direction I was going in, and I could bounce ideas off them.
It was a present for their mum. They loved the hei matau design, and we wanted it to emerge from the stone. I wanted it to have movement and roll from top to bottom. It had to be curvaceous, and elegant, and it had to contrast with the block.

HAN'S PIKORUA
I was asked to do a pikorua - the twisting of two piko piko roots. Quite simply, they symbolise eternal love.
I have created a twist before but this piece flowed beautifully, made a lot more sense as it developed, worked a lot easier, than my first try. Although there are obvious similarities they were quite different.
I was asked to leave the lower portion unadorned to provide room for a plaque.
It now resides in Auckland - I hope Hans and the family enjoy it.

MIKE'S KORU'S
A friend asked me to do something simple but elegant for his wife's birthday. The koru's were his idea. I loved the flow, and with a pair there are numerous ways to display them. While still quite large they could easily be indoor pieces.
