Making Sadie's Koropepe

The Kapiti Coast Stonecarving Symposium is enormous fun, and the perfect place to work on Sadie's sculpture because it was just down the road from her.

I visualised a solid base for this piece but I didn't want it to dominate the sculpture, and it had to look in keeping with the stone carving on top. So I ended up with a rounded base with some texture to break up the sculpture and the base.

When I have a lot of curves I find myself constantly tweaking, trimming a bit here, then balancing it up over there and so on. It can be difficult to say "it's finished!"
