Making Triple Koru

The koru is the Māori name given to the new unfurling fern frond and symbolizes new life, growth, strength and peace.

My wife commissioned me to create a gift from her graduating class to their Principal of the Wellington College of Homeopathy. For me the koru had to be involved somewhere, the graduating class faced a whole new world and there were new challenges ahead in the life of the Principal.

The logo for the College is of 3 circles within a circle. I used that as my design replacing the circles for 3 koru twisting together.

The design posed a few challenges: I wanted a different view from the front and back; the circle needed to be flawless to touch; and the korus needed to be symmetrical.

I struggled at times, and needed to frequently step back and make sure I was still heading in the right direction, I felt very satisfied with the final creation.

"This sculpted representation of the Wellington College of Homeopathy logo has beautifully expressed the depth of meaning within the design of the logo. It uplifts my spirit whenever I look at it....It is beyond words to express my gratitude for the gift of it."
