Making The Twists

The wife of a friend asked me to sculpt a Xmas gift for her husband. The Twists meaning of an "eternal bond of love and friendship between two people" had a large bearing on her design choice. I showed several stylized designs of the twist I had created for a previous commission, to offer a range of ideas. We settled on simple and elegant.

The twist provided many challenges, maintaining balance and symmetry from top to bottom, and a sense of proportional flow through the piece proved to be more difficult than I anticipated. I wanted a blend of flat sides and smooth curves for contrast and shadow. I was pleased I had the opportunity to do a twist, and pleased with the end result.
