Hemi & Bec's wedding gift

I decided to work on this sculpture at this year's (2009) Kapiti 3-day stone carving event at Otaihanga Domain. Once again, the weather provided some entertainment (for one day) but the company was superb, and we all had a fantastic time.

Progress was slow as I painstakingly removed stone from around the karearea (native New Zealand falcon). It can be challenging putting your 3-dimensional interpretation on someone else's 2-dimensional picture!

I put a slight angle on the falcon, lifting the forward wing off the stone to create more depth. I also angled the circular figure (representing a cloud in an updraft) to give more depth and shadow.

Finally I textured the background to lift and help separate the falcon from the cloud.

Thanks team, for taking a leap of faith that I could deliver this for you.

I hope you enjoy it Hemi & Becs, and best wishes for your future.
