2012 Archibalds Stone Carving - a visitor's blog

Another year has gone by and another successful Stone Carving Symposium done and dusted, thanks to Mary Archibald who continues to host this annual event for the stone carvers of yesterday, today and tomorrow.

This fun, friendly and inspiring annual event was held at Maidstone Park from 14th January 2011 to 23 January 2012 and draws carvers and visitors from far and wide, although this year there were fewer participants than in previous years as some sculptors were busy making their pieces for Shapeshifter 2012 as part of the New Zealand International Arts Festival, one of New Zealand's premier outdoor sculpture exhibitions which will run from 25th February 2012 to 18th March 2012 at the Lower Hutt Civic Garden in Laings Road, Lower Hutt. Still the 2012 Archibalds Stone Carving Symposium was not short of visitors and continued to amaze, entertain and inspire the stream of people who went to sticky-beak, come rain or shine in spite of the lack of summery weather this year. The die hard sculptors were as usual friendly and approachable, happy to talk about their creations and inspire others with their talent, imagination and creativity. Good days were had by all. There was no auction this year but the finished pieces were on sale.
