I felt privileged to be among some 50 stone carvers and sculptors at the 2008 Archibald Stone Carving Symposium held this year at Maidstone Park in Upper Hutt City, New Zealand. This is an annual stone carving event organised by Mary Archibald who is well known for her patronage of the arts.
Sculptors and stone carvers gather in unity to create their work beginning from a raw block of stone to the finished sculpture over the 10 days leading up to Wellington Anniversary Day in January when their sculptures are auctioned to the public.
I really enjoyed the fellowship of working together with other talented stone carvers and felt humbled by the experience.

I named my sculpture 'Togetherness' or 'Mapihi Pounamu'.
