CARVING WITH OAMARU STONE
The stone we use is Oamaru stone — also commonly known as Limestone. We use this particular stone because it can be readily shaped, Oamaru stone is a favourite material for stone carvers and sculptors in New Zealand.

I was asked to create a sculpture that a family could look upon at home and think about their recently departed wife and mother - Stacy.
The 3 koru represent her children and the twist represents the bond of love shared between husband, wife and family.
The single twist is a lovely shape, and can display movement and life in an otherwise solid material.
I needed to ensure that I allowed enough material for an overlapping twist. If I started too thin, it may end up too delicate.
Keeping the 3 koru reducing in size yet proportional to each other got a little fiddly.
I delivered it to Murray and one of his sons. I think I achieved what they were after.
