I created Whakatoro at the January Upper Hutt stone carving symposium in 2014. I was looking for long sweeping curves in the design and the feeling I had was of someone reaching up to touch something (Whakatoro). The stone was tight and hard, and finished up with an amazingly smooth surface - you were compelled to touch. It was a substantial size but easily transported, for me it was the perfect representation of grandeur and elegance.
